Digital illustration is the creation of drawings, paintings, or motion graphics using a computer program like adobe photoshop, illustrator, or procreate. There are various types of digital illustration techniques and styles, as well as programs that artists like to use. Procreate is mostly used on the ipad with the use of the apple pencil to draw illustrations or digital paintings or drawings.
Digital illustration is a fairly new medium, as tools like procreate and illustrator came out fairly recently. Digital illustration is similar to traditional illustration, the only difference being that it involves the use of technology to create the illustration. Digital illustration has been used in various contexts, from advertising, to book design, to motion graphics and animated films.
From the reading, I learned more about digital illustration and how it differs from other forms of digital art such as graphic design. I myself have dabbled in digital illustration, and sometimes have gotten confused about how it differs from that of graphic design. The article taught me that digital illustration in a nutshell is creating one illustration composition, whereas graphic design is creating a composition using created illustrations, fonts, photos, and vectors. I also learned that digital illustration is important for a lot of fields of work, from movie making to freelance artists. Some may choose the medium of digital illustration to create artwork, whereas others may use the medium to create characters for movies and animations, to brand a product, or give an illustrated look to a piece of design.
