Digital collage is the creation and manipulation of multiple images, using software like Adobe photoshop or illustrator, to create one single composition. Based on the article, “What is digital collage” digital collage is very similar to regular or traditional collage, with the only difference being the use of technology instead of paper and scissors to create the final composition.
Digital collage is a relatively new type of digital art, as current technology and programs like adobe were created recently. Before these types of programs, collage was only able to be done without the use of technology. Collage in a general art form, however, has been around for centuries, but digital collage is the way in which artists are able to manipulate their different photos even further to create an even more precise and unique composition.
From the readings, I saw some very different examples of digital collage that made me rethink the medium. Some digital collages take on a more traditional aesthetic, where the artist cut out different images and placed them together to look like a more paper and scissors type of collage look. Others, however, seemed to be more of an abstraction of a photo. The artist placed very similar images and pieces of images together to create a composition that looks like it was a photo, but is abstracted so that the viewer can subtly see it is a collage. From seeing these different takes on how artists digitally collage, I gained a new perspective on what digital collage can create.
